About Kalaketty Estate
Kalaketty Estate is the home of a syrian Christian Family , nestled amidst lush green estate with an area of 150 acres. There a family of planters and have been living in the ancestral home foor the past three generations.
This is a house built in the olden days amidst old and huge Mahogany, Teak, Mangostene, Nutmeg and Clove trees, overlooking lush green paddy fields. Other than cocoa, tapioca, pepper, vanilla, rice, coconuts, bananas and pineapples Rubber is their main plantation in the Estate.
Food and Accommodation facilities at the Kalaketty Estate
There are 2 large and comfortable rooms with all the amenities that one could expect. Food facilities are there and it will be full boarding, including lunch and dinner. Tariff rates includes food and rooms.
Homegrown organic fruits and vegetables are used for cooking and you can taste the decades old recipes handed over from generation to generation. Typical syrian christian meals will be served
Kalaketty Estate as a stop over while travelling
The Estate is just 7 kilometers from Kanjirappally, midway between Periyar and Kumarakom. The travellers wqhile travelling from Periyar to Madurai or Kochi Kumarakom route can stopover at the estate for lunch. The package includes a trip to the Rubber Estate to see how they tap rubber. Alongwith this you will get tasty home cooked lunch which is served on the lawns surrounding the bungalow.
Recreation facilities at the Kalaketty Estate
You can watch rubber tappers at work, see how the latex is processed and made into sheets.
You can clear doubts about different types of crops as the estate offers multi cultivation and harvest.
You can have a jeep ride through the estate as well as short walks along the brooks and streams which run through the estate. You can also ride the bicycle and experiance the village life first hand.
You can also visit the St. Bendedictine Ashram at about 3 km from the residence
If you are interested you can also have the rejuvenation treatment / ayurvedic therapies etc at the reputed Sukhodaya Ayurveda Center at Kanjirapally.
How to Reach Kalaketty Estate
Kochi is the nearest international airport about 100 kilometers away. Nearest railway station is Kottayam and it is about 45 kilometers away from the Kalaketty Estate. The closest town is kanjirapally and is about 7 kilometers away.
You can reach Kottayam by rail or by bus transport from the other cities in Kerala and Tamilnadu. Kottayam is well connected by Rail and Road.
