About Kandath Tharavad Homestay
Kandath Tharavad is a homestay located in the Thenkurussi village of the Palakkad District. This village is located at equidistant from both Cochin Airport and the Coimbatore airport. It takes about 2 hours drive from the airport to the homestay.
About Kandath tharavad
This Kandath Homestay is the ancestral house of the Kandath Tharavad / Family and it is surrounded by the lush green surroundings of paddy fields. This is a heritage home about 200 years old mainly constructed with mud and teak and was built in 1794 by Mr. Kuppavelan, a landowner and money - lender, the great great grandfather of the present owner Bhagwaldas.
About the Kandath Tharavad Homestay
The main feature of the Kandath Tharavad is their "Purathalum", the frontal raised area with big grand pillars made in Teak with glorious carvings of Elephants, Snakes fish and dragons. The floor has been laid with ochre, terracotta and blue coloured tiles.

There are 4 naturally ventilated rooms with ensuite facilities. Other facilities available at the Homestay are telephone , laundry services, Doctor on Call, Bicycles for riding into the village, Pick up and drop from the airport and railway station etc. Beer and wine can also be arranged if needed.
Activities at the Kandath Tharavad Homestay
This is one of the best places for the trekking enthusiasts. You can go for trekking in the silent valley National Park, Nelliyampathy Hills (1 Day Trip), Prambikkulam Wildlife Sanctuary (1 Day Trip) etc.
For ornithologists Birdwatching at Parambikkulam (1 Day Trip) is a must.
Fishing Excursion to Siruvani Lake ( Day Trip) and a House Boat ride in the Back waters (1 Day Trip).

How to Reach kandath Tharavad Homestay
Thenkurissi , where the the Kandath Tharavad homestay is located is equidistant from both the airports, Cochin and Coimbatore. So it is easier to reach the airport, get a hired vehicle or inform the hosts earlier for a pickup. You can reach the homestay within two hours.
If you are taking cxonnection trains to palakkad you can just get an auto to reach the place or ask the hosts to pick you up.
Palakkad is also well connected by road, you can get private air conditioned buses or government transport buses to reach the Tharavad.
