With the motto of 'Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya', lead from the darkness to light, National Institute of Technology was established in 1961. This deemed university is under the Central Government. With all sorts of modern infrastructures, cultural and technical activities this is the number one college in Kerala and among the first 30 colleges in India. This was formerly known as REC( Regional Engineering College).
Courses offered in NIT Calicut;
Including the newly started branch Engineering physics in 2009, NITC offers all the main branches in B.Tech, B. Arch, M.Tech, M.C.A. MBA,M.Arch and Phd.courses are available.
Hostels in NIT Calicut
Hostel facilities are available for the students. Hostel facilities for boys are arranged in the main campus, which includes A, B, C, D, E, F, F', G, PG I and PG II hostels. The three girls hostels are outside the main campus. Apart from these hostels, mega hostels are under construction near to the main campus itself. The work will be completed in 2010 itself.
Food Facilities in NIT Calicut;
All the hostels run a mess inside the hostel itself. Apart from the messes in the hostels, student can have their food from the Main Canteen or from the Mini Canteen both are situated inside the Campus. Students can choose the messes according to his/ her own likenesses.
The main events in NIT Calicut;
There two mega events conducted by NITC during each academic year. They are the technical festival, Tathva and the cultural festival, Ragam. Both these events are intercollege events enfoying more than 5000 participants for each. These two events are the second in terms of money prizes and participation. Apart from Ragam and Tathva, there are many events conducted for the inmates itself.
