Rajagiri School of Social Work, is one of the 4 administrative units of Rajagiri College of Social Sciences at Kalamassery in the Ernakulam District of the state of Kerala.
rajagiri School of Social Work got established in the year 1955, with a Diploma Programme in social services which later started a Masters Programme in Social Work.
They also started specialisations in the year 1964 in Family and Child Welfare, Community development and Medical and Psychiatric Social Work.
The MSW Programme of the school earned a good name very soon and became well known with in a short span of time. The School also started taking up social work projects in Research and Training in Social Work and related fields.
The Objectives of the school of social work is to impart necessary theoretical inputs on the philosophy, values, methods, fields and approaches of human service profession and management, to sensitize young professionals to the social issues by developing social awareness, to develop proficiency in helping skills and effective intervention strategiesto develop an insight into one's own self and the purpose of professional self in the helping profession as well as to sharpen skills in conceptualization, analysis, interpretation and management.
About the Doctoral Research Courses of Rajagiri School of Social Work
The college was recognized as a Centre for Doctoral Research via Order No. AC.AII-1/504/87 dtd 6.5.1988 for Social Work, Sociology and allied Social Sciences, under M.G. University, Kottayam, Kerala.
For the reasearch scholars, facilities are provided by the School of Social work namely,
Rooms with access to the computers with internet facility, intercom and storage facility. The college Library has an impressive collection of 29700 books, journals and periodicalsplus about 130 CD's other than the Electronic Databases like EBSCO, JSTOR, Questia etc.
Bi annual Research Guides Meet
The centre organizes bi-annual meeting of all the guidesin Social work to review the progress of the research scholars under their guidance and make necessary suggestions.
Bi annual Reasearch Scholar's Meet
This is held twice in an year every year, for all scholars who have got their approval from the University and to monitor ther research.The supervising guides are present during these meets.
Curriculum and the duration of the MSW courses at Rajagiri School of Social Work
The Master of Social work programme is of two years duration and is organised in four semesters. There are six courses in the first semester along with concurrent field work. In the third semester there are two electives and four compulsory courses. The concurrent field work and block placement is an integral part of the third semester too. In the fourth semester there are two compulsory courses and two electives apart from a project work. Also the students undergo a block placement for a duration of not less than four weeks.
Eligibility and Admission for the MSW courses
Any graduate from Mahatma Gandhi University or any other Universities recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University with an aggregate of 50 % for Part I, II& III put together. There will be an Entrance Examination for the eligible students conducted by Mahatma Gandhi University. The papers will consist of objective type questions on Verbal Ability, Reasoning Ability and General Knowledge. Maximum marks allotted to the objective type test is 100. Rank list will be prepared on the basis of the entrance examination marks only.
Bachelor of social Work courses in Rajagiri School of Social work
BSW courses are also available at the School of Social work to prepare them for a career in the social work and to take it up as a profession.
The course has been inducted to sensitise young professionals to social issues by developing social awareness and to meet the demand in the society, for qualified, committed and trained Social Workers, in welfare and developmental agencies in the country.
Eligibilty and the Admission details for BSW courses of Rajagiri School of Social Work
The Eligibility criteria will be a higher secondary school certificate that is the Plus II/ Class XII examination or an equivalent Exam. Those who have the minimum criteria will be called for a personal interview. The final list will be prepared on the merit list prepared by the college.
BSW application forms are available at the college office . you can get them directly or can be downloaded from the website. DD for Rs 150 has to be sent with the filled in application form.
PGDHAS courses at Rajagiri School of Social Work
Their object is to give the students a theoretical input on the philosophy, values, methods, fields and approaches of human service profession and Human Resource Management and to sensitize on social issues and social problems by developing social awareness.
Their main objective in preparing this line of courses is to develop proficiency in helping skills and effective intervention strategies and to develop an insight into one's own self and the purpose of professional self in the helping profession, to sharpen the conceptualization, analytical interpretation skills and professionalism in the administrative areas.
These are done effectively to develop the skills of programme planning, evaluation and management.
Eligibility and the Admission Criteria for the PGDAHS courses
The minimum eligibility needed to apply for PGDAHS course is a pass in Degree (Any Specialisation). The candidates who have the minimum criteria will be called for a personal interview and the selection will be according to the merit list prepared by the College Authorities after the interview.
