Konakuppakatil Gopinathan Balakrishnan popularly known as K G Balakrishnan was the former Supreme Court Chief Justice of India preceded by Y K Sabarwal. He was one among the rare Keralite to hold such a supreme post of India. This great personality was born in a place known as Thalayolaparambu near Kottayam in 12th May 1945. He was born in to a Pulaya Dalit family and happened to face many social obstacles to during his childhood. But his determination and hard work helped him to attain this greatest profession. He once again proved that there is no shortcut to success. He was the thirty seventh Chief Justice of India and served during 14th January, 2007 to 12th May 2010 and his post is now succeeded by Sarosh Homi Kapadia. The successful story of this great man not only inspired the Keralites but also the whole people of India because he is one among the simple and common people of India and he knows their pain.
Educational Life of K G Balakrishnan
The great man has faced so many difficulties in his childhood. His father named Konakuppakatil Gopinathan was K G’s motivator. He was a classmate of the former president of India from Kerala namely K R Narayanan. K G Balakrishnan was not an extra ordinary student during his childhood, but he was up to date with his works. The same policy, he is following till date. He was not at all interested in pending his works to tomorrow. His primary education was mainly from Vaikkom, Kaduthuruthi and Thalayolapparampu high schools. He completed his pre-university from St. Thomas College in Pala and completed his BSC from Maharajas College, Ernakulam. He joined the coarse of LLB in Ernakulam Law College and also completed LLM from the same college with first rank.
Professional Life of K G Balakrishnan
K G Balakrishnan started his career as an Additional Municif in Paravoor in the age of 27. In the next year he was promoted to the Municif post. Then he served as a Sub-Judge in Alappuzha in 1982. In the next year he got a chance to become the Deputy Registrar in the High Court of Kerala, but he resigned his post and joined with advocate Santhalingam as his junior and continued as an Advocate. He has shown his talents as an advocate as well as a judge and for that he was appointed as the High Court Chief Justice of Kerala in the year 1985. In 1997, he got a transfer to Gujarat High court and the next year he became the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court. In the year 2000, he got a promotion to become the Supreme Court Judge and finally became the Chief Justice of Supreme from 14th January, 2007 to 12th May 2010.
