Earth Hour is a global event organized by WWF and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.
Speaking about the occasion, Harinath Viswanathan, Vice President – Public Relations, JCI-Cochin said, “Our vision is to contribute to the advancement of the global community by providing the opportunity for young people to develop the leadership skills, social responsibility, entrepreneurship and fellowship necessary to create positive change. With Earth Hour almost upon us, our thoughts are with the people of Japan during this extremely exigent and sad time for their country. The candle lights at Durbar Hall Ground should motivate us for a new resolution to commit to a personal action to benefit the environment. We hope WALK FOR MOTHER EARTH will act as a converging point of environmentalists, students, officials and the public.” Chlorophyll is a Non Profit Organization working on environmental causes, an initiative by a group of youngsters who dream of a greener world. Speaking about the occasion, Arun Mathew, said, “The vision of this combined venture is to save our mother earth and thus ourselves. We aim to bring an integrated social movement where everyone with a sincere interest can join. We are honored by associating with JCI and WWF for the ceremony. We invite the great unwashed Kerala to come and light a candle with us.”
