Trivandrum still with our capital city is lacking a lot of new developments compared to cochin.Lifestyle and trends are so different that we never feel that cochin is a part of kerala.
Fast moving cochin will be a blast with any new developments.People, fashion, food,vehicle, dress code etc in all these aspects cochin shows one step ahead.
Life style of the people changed a lot comparing to other districts.Cochin is progressing with a merge of orisa, tamilnadu, northindian etc..
But still if you move around the places still you can find one thing very odd.After 8pm you will have only restaurants, coffee shops etc.Will be surely difficult for you to get a medical shop after 9pm.
where is the modernisation in cochin? Is it in buildings, construction work, IT parks etc. Then what about your daily routine go? Just one shopping after your long hours of office, but pathetic to find that no shops open after 8 - 8.30 pm.

There is a popular common misunderstanding that development means a lot of concrete skyscrapers,a lot of money inflow,illuminated buildings and streets etc.These all form only a part of the whole idea of "development".
Trivandrum and Cochin has the potential to become a world class city like the Barcelona city or the Newyork city.But what we lack is infrastructures.Our cities along with its population is increasing day by day than any other city in developed countries.Take the example of traffic congestion in Cochin city.During peak times,the city is literally paralyzed for more than two hours.This worsened condition is same in Trivandrum and other major cities in kerala.This is a result of direct copying from the western countries without proper and focussed planning.
The change in the attitude towards life,an increased interest towards western pattern of life etc has changed the overall need and life style of the people.It is so unfortunate and shame that a city like Cochin cannot provide basic neccessary things after a certain time at night.The more presence of coffee shops and restaurants at night, points to the life pattern there which is completely alien to Keralites a few years back.Thanks for bringing this food for thought to the forefront.
