Begging in Kerala shows decreasing trend

Results of a study conducted by Kerala Social Security Mission showed a declining trend in forced begging in the State. Majority of the beggars (65%) concentrate at the places of worship; 18% at bus stand and railway stations, 11% at beaches and tourist centres and 6% in markets.
Only 59% of beggars are Keralites. Beggars from other States have reduced significantly at Railway Stations.
Female beggars are more forming 57% and males 34%,the rest being children.
Daily earnings of the beggars are in the range of Rs.200/- to Rs.500/- .
