    65 years of Independence

All of us celebrate various events in the individual, family, community , state and National level. Today we are celebrating the Independence day which is similar to the birthday of an individual. Normally we are expected to take stock of the position upto now and the plan for the future.

As for the nation is concerned what are the items on which we have to take stock to make an assessment of improvement. For any country the most important thing is its population. As far as the population is concerned the most important thing is the food, clothing and shelter. What is the position on these counts? As far as food is concerned, we have to feel ashamed that still there are millions of the countrymen below the poverty line. When the very basic thing for existence for any living thing namely food is in this condition, what can be expected in other aspects like the clothing and shelter. A dismal condition.

We cannot be proud of anything to boast like that even the municipal sweeper or a rag picker is having a cell phone but with more than 50% of the population under below poverty line. The next important thing is education. The condition of education is the less said the better. Whatever education system we are having now is like the business establishments. It is a kind of factory to produce engineers, accountants, doctors and clerks etc.

What is the thing we can boast of having the real freedom? Talking about anything or anybody.

Are we to be happy or sad of the position and what is the remedy?

The 65th Independence day also has been celebrated as usual with flag hosting, military/police parade, distribution of awards, speeches, etc. People also have done at their level some celebrations.

Though Kerala Chief Minister had requested to avoid plastic flags being distributed to the public, especially children in most of the places these were seen. Naturally, after use it will be thrown out and will add to plastic pollution. Moreover, it is an ill treatment of the National Flag, which is punishable.
