A research team of CUSAT found two endemic fish varieties catfish and eel disappeared from Pampa .It was noted during an evaluation of the harvested fishery wealth of the river by the school of Industrial Fisheries of CUSAT
The three year assessment of fish landing at six centers was carried out as a project "database on fish germplasam, capturefisheries and biodiversity threats of riversof kerala" for the Kerala State council for Science,Technology and Environment.
The analysis identified 60 species of finfish and one prawn variety in the river. It was estimated that 42 tonnes of fish having ornamental value was being indiscriminately caught annually from this river .the study recomended setting up of a local -level management body for conservation of the fishery resources

Actions have to be taken to preserve the endangered species of fish. Those which can be reared in the artificial conditions might possibly be produced in large scale at the lab and transferred to the the natural habitats. Necessary research need to be done to produce those endangered species, if methods are already not available, under captive condition.
Simultaneously measures are to be taken to assure the cleanliness of natural waters in the rivers.

The revers are getting polluted day by day and the waste materials and chemicals are dumped into the water resources without any social concerns...The Industries and Municipal dumping yards are established near to the river beds...Backwaters full of Aquatic weeds & plants...Drainage systems opening to the revers...And above all,,during summer we wonder that here there was a river!!!
This is our own god's own country...This is a major threat to the great biodiversity of our land...Not only for aquatic organism but also for human beings...
