A new Malayalam news channel called Reporter is going to be launched on May 11th 2011. Reporter is a new Malayalam news channel which will be launched on 11th May 2011 from Kochi. The speciality of this news channel is that it will be the first High Definition (HD) news channel in Kerala. The channel is formed under the leadership of MV. Nikesh Kumar. The channel will be a 24 hour channel dedicated to showcase all the news related to the state of Kerala in India. A new company called Indo-Asian News Channel Private Limited (IANS) is helping to finance and broadcast Reporter TV news channel. The managing director and chief editor of this new channel will be Mr Kumar. The company was registered at the Kochi office in October 2010 and is in the process of obtaining a license for launching the channel. May 2011 is a really good time to launch Reporter as it is the time when the results of the Kerala elections will be delivered to the public. Other than Kerala, the channel will be made available in few other parts of India too. Reporter will also be available in the Gulf region which is a concentrated area of Malayalam news channels.
MV. Nikesh Kumar is an ex-Chief Executive Officer(CEO) and a news presenter of India Vision which is also a news channel based on Kerala. After working with this esteemed news channel, he decided to launch a T.V channel on his own. The budget for setting up the news channel is almost Rs 15crores and Mr Kumar is expecting a monthly ad revenue of Rs 1 crore. Reporter will be dedicated totally for hard news on Kerala with a slight portion of the time given for feature stories. More importance will be given to deliver upto date trusted news coverage to the viewers. An ombudsman has also been assigned to clear any errors given in the news reports.
A big highlight here is that Reporter will also receive a good competition from another new channel called Mathrubhumi which is also slated to launch around the same time. The Mathrubhumi newspaper company has decided to start the new channel Mathrubhumi. Other than Mathrubhumi, Reporter will also have to stand strong against all the other already existing news channels in Kerala such as Asianet News, India Vision, Manorama News and People. Kerala is known as the hub of news channels and there are still many news channel which are waiting in queue to be launched. Since Mr Nikesh Kumar was very instrumental in the success of India Vision and was a key person for making it famous among all the other news channels, there is a lot of expectation from him to do the same with Reporter. The popular Malayalam writer, M.T Vasudevan Nair will be the chairman of Reporter news channel. A huge ultra modern studio complex has been constructed in Kalamassery for the channel. The administration office of the channel at Foreshore Road was inaugurated by the Union Minister Mullapally Ramachandran. Dominic presentation and MLA presided and Minister Thomas Issac delivered the key speech. The project report was read out by Asset Homes managing director K.A Muhammad Salim. The news reader for Reporter channel will be Venu Balakrishnan who previously worked for Asianet and Manorama and was splendid at his job. He resigned from Manorama so that he could join as the Managing Editor of Reporter T.V channel.
