Nadan: Kamal's next with Jayaram zooms on theatre artistes
Nadan malayalam movie directed by Kamal featuring Jayaram in lead focuses on the history and relevance of theatre in Kerala. After his much acclaimed movie 'Celluloid' which immortalised the story of the father of Malayalam cinema J C Daniel, Kamal is gearing up to trace the origin of theatres. Jayaram dons the role of a theatre actor and troupe owner. This movie would go on floor by the end of July, Other than Jayaram, a number of theatre artistes would play supporting roles in the movie 'Nadan'.
Film maker Kamal is ready to apply his magical touch onto his next project too. After his much acclaimed movie 'Celluloid' which immortalised the story of the father of Malayalam cinema J C Daniel, he is gearing up to trace the origin of theatres.
'Nadan', which features Jayaram in lead focuses on the history and relevance of theatre in Kerala. Jayaram dons the role of a theatre actor and troupe owner. This movie would go on floor by the end of July, Other than Jayaram, a number of theatre artistes would play supporting roles in the movie 'Nadan'.
After the final draft script and casing get completed, the shooting of the movie will start during the last week of July. If Celluloid offered the viewers knowledge about the history of malayalam cinema, 'Nadan' would travel through the life of theatre artists.
Tracing the history of Kerala theatre, the movie will focus on the growth of Kerala Theatres and the contribution of Ochira Velukkutty during 1930's till KPAC and other popular drama groups in the 1960s.
Scripted by Suresh Babu who had earlier scripted for Shikkar, 'Nadan' will be a fictional story which speaks about the influence brought by theatres in spreading awareness in the post-independence era. KPAC and other professional theatre groups did play a great part in contributing to the socio-revolution of Kerala during the 1950's and 60s.
Being one of the oldest and greater presentation art forms, Drama was used to communicate directly with the people. With the arrival of television and films which add more to entertainment, the popularity of drama declined leaving little influence of the current society.
'Nadan' narrates the story of a popular drama troupe owned by Jayaram, which was previously helmed by his father and grandfather in the past. The problems faced by the owner and his existence are being addressed here. Two legendary Malayalam plays Ningalenne Communistaakki and Mudiyanaaya Puthran will be added in the flashback scenes to give real touch to the story.
