PADMANABHAPURAM PALACE


Padmanabhapuram Palace is located in at Padmanabhapuram Fort,
Thuckalay in Kanyakumari District, Tamilnadu.
50 kilometers south from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
The palace is located at the foot of the Veli Hills.

The palace is under the protection of
Government of Kerala archeology department.
The palace was constructed in1601 A.D
by Iravipillai Iravivarma Kulasekhara Perumal.
This was the capital of Travancore till 18th Century.

The palace complex is a best example of traditional
Kerala architecture. The complex contains four Building:

Mantrasala- King's Council Chamber
Thai Kottaram- Mother's Palace
Nataksala- Hall of Performing Arts
A four-storied building at the centre of the Palace complex
Theke Kottaram- Southern Palace.


A variety of old Chinese jars, weapons,
Brass lamps, wood and stone sculpture,
furniture,large mirrors made of polished metal,
paintings of history of Travancore,
a wooden cot made of up to 64 wooden pieces
of a variety of medicinal tree trunks,
Polished stone cot meant for cool effect
are some of the great attractions here.

The sad thing about this Palace is ,it's in Tamil Nadu. The incapability of the peoples who did the formation of the Kerala State. They remove some portion of the Kanyakumari, including the place where the capital of Travancore once and add some portion of the Tamilnadu, which is now included in the Palakkat District. A lot of peoples in Kanyakumari especially the region "Marthandam" still speaks Malayalam, where as the some people in Palakkad still speaks Tamil... It's very diffcult to justify
