Sasthamkotta is largest freshwater lake in Kerala.
Sasthamkotta Lake
Sasthamkotta is largest freshwater lake in Kerala.This is surrounded by hills on three sides and the other side is with rice fields. The ancient Sastha Temple lends its name to the town.
A large part of the lake has been reclaimed for agriculture. The lake has a capacity to hold 22390 million litres of water. The source of water is from the underground sprouts. The lake serves as the source of drinking water for the people of Kollam district. The lake is special in the sense that water in the lake does not contain common salt. The lake supports 27 species of freshwater fish.
Location : The Sasthamkotta lake is situated 29 Km from Kollam
How to Reach
By Air
Located at a distance of 100 kilometers, Trivandrum International Airport.
By Rail
The Kollam railway station is located at a distance of around 35 kilometers
By Road
Sasthanmkotta is well connected to Kollam and Kerala by a wide network of roads.
KSRTC Buses and Private Buses, Taxis and Auto-rickshaws available.
