About the Puthuvype Lighthouse and the Beach near Fort Vypeen
Puthuvype Beach is located in the major industrial area of the western suburbs of Kochi of the Ernakulam district in the state of Kerala in India. Puthuvype Beach is located at about 5 kilometers west from the Highcourt juction of the city Kochi / Cochin. Puthuvype is a part of the Fort Vypeen and has vembanad lake as border on one side, that is to the east, Arabian seaon the two sides west and south and Njarakal on the north. 
Tourism Development at Puthuvype
The Government of Kerala is trying to bring up tourism in Puthuvype as an alternate Beach for the always crowded Cherai Beach. Puthuvype is actually closer to Kochi and there is a light house present here. The light house is located at just about half a kilometer away from the Beach and is said to be the tallest in India. There is also a shallow ditch to the north side of the beach which you can explore.

Smoking not allowed and strictly prohibited.
The beach is an uninhabited and less crowded beach. You will not find shops or Thattukadas there. It would be better for you to take eatables and snacks with you if you are planning to spend the day in the beach.
From the top of the lighthouse you can get a panoramic view of the city and its new skyscrapers. How to Reach Puthuvype Beach in Ernakulam District?
First get to either Ernakulam Railway station or Kochi International airport. From the place of stay in the heart of the city, you will have to take a bus, auto or a cab to Puthuvype which is located at about 7 kilometers from the city. If you are travelling by bus get down at Puthuvype Junction and take an auto from there to Puthuvype Vishnu temple, you can see the Lighthouse just opposite the temple.
