Kerala Piravi means the birth of Kerala.Every year November 1 is celebrated as the day of Kerala Piravi since kerala was created on November1,1956.Before this day this territory was composed of 3 independent provinces namely Malabar,Cochin and Travancore.

Kerala was named after the ruler Keralian Thampuran.According to the Hindu mythology Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Mahavishnu (The God-Lord) created Kerala.Parasurama threw his axe from Kanyakumari to the sea ,leading to the formation of Kerala.

State of Kerala consists of 14 districts with Trivandrum district as the state capital.Cochin and Calicut are the major cities in Kerala.Malayalam is the most commonly used language.

Kerala is famous for its wonderful natural beauty hence it's called as God's own country. The legendary king Mahabali is said to have ruled from Kerala in a reign of universal happiness and prosperity. On his passing away he was appointed ruler of the netherworld (Patalam) by Vamana, the fifth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Once a year, during the Onam festival, he returns to Kerala.
