Fish Varattiyathu Kerala style recipe


Fish Varatiathu is an easy method of preparation of fish in a dry format. It needs only less ingredients. No need to add coconut milk or tamarind. Yet, it tastes far better than many of the common fish dishes and serves best with rice.

Fish varatiath is an excellent non-veg dish which serves best for lunch along with plain rice.

Ingredients


  • Fish cut into pieces-1/2kg
  • Turmeric powder-1/2tsp
  • Kashmiri chilli powder-1.5 tsp
  • Fried coriander powder-1tsp
  • Pepper powder-1/4tsp
  • Onion-1
  • Shallots-2 or 3
  • Tomato-2
  • Green Chillies-2
  • Ginger-1 piece
  • Garlic-5 cloves
  • Coconut oil- 1 Tablespoon
  • Water-1/2cup
  • Salt-to taste

    Method of preparation


  • Marinate the fish with with turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, pepper and salt. Place it for at least 15 minutes.
  • Blend once in a mixer-tomato, green chillies, shallots, ginger and garlic.
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add onion and the above mixture and fry it well till it turns golden brown colour.
  • Add the marinate fish and 1/2 cup water.
  • Close the lid and cook it in low flame till all the water is absorbed.

    Since preparation time is very short and method is easy, every working lady will prefer to try this dish at least once.
