Anjali Menon’s magical frames ‘Manjadikuru’ unlocks on 25th May


Manjadikuru is an upcoming malayalam movie directed by Anjali Menon while the release date of the movie is set for 25th May 2012. Manjadikuru (Lucky Red Seeds) won a number of awards including awards at South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF) at New York. The movie will feature Prithviraj, Rahman and Sindhu Menon in the lead.

Manjadikuru (Lucky Red Seeds) is a malayalam movie directed by Anjali Menon which had won a number of awards at the South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF), New York. The movie which starred Prithviraj in the lead became a sensation at the SAIFF which swept away 5 awards which included Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Emerging Talent. Manjadikuru's cinematographer Pietro Zuercher who the best Cinematographer award while Vyjayanthi, a 14-year-old girl who has done a key role in the movie had won the Best Emerging Talent award.

The movie also bagged the FIPRESCI award for the Best Malayalam film and Hassankutty award for Best Debutant Indian director at the International Film Festival of Kerala of 2008. The movie also was credited with Certificate of Appreciation at the Schlingel International Film Festival, Germany. Anjali also won the best debut direction (by a woman) award at New Jersy NJISACF, US. 'Manjadikuru' was officially selected for the La Rochelle Film Festival in France and later at FICI, Madrid, Spain.



Anjali Menon had been a part of the movie Kerala Café directing a short film titled as 'Happy Journey'. The cast of Manjadikuru other than Prithviraj includes Rahman, Thilakan, Jagathy Sreekumar, Harisanth, Murali, Pujappura Ravi, Urvashi, Padmapriya, Bindu Panickar, Kaviyoor Ponamma, Praveena, Sindhu Menon, Vyjayanthi, Master Rijosh, Baby Arathi Sasikumar, Sagar Shiyas, Master Sidharth, Sreedevika, Julia George, Firoz Mohan & others.

The movie is set in the mid 1970's as the story narates through the eyes of Vicky born to NRI parents who arrives at his grandparent's home which situated in rural Kerala to attend the funeral of his grandfather. All the family members joined together for the funeral and later stay there till the end of the traditional funeral rites which lasts for 16 days. During the time Vicky had to witness various situations and emotions like fun, friendship and discovered more about him and his family. Decades later as full grown adult Vicky returns back to his ancestral home to recount his experience about the sixteen days which gave him some unforgettable moments in life.

Anjali Menon is quite familiar among Keralaties to be her directorial venture through the short film ‘Happy Journey' in Kerala Café. She is much specializes in working for documentaries and telefilms. She had been a part of various projects like The Time to Blossom, Ila and Kalyani. The Time to Blossom was a documentary based on Rubiya, a classical Indian dancer from Malappuram while Ila was a dance film which was based on a world music track. The theme of the tele-film Kalyani focussed on street children. Anjali has also been a part of the Dulquar Salman's upcoming malayalam movie Usthad Hotel as script writer.

More than being the director of Manjadikuru, Anjali too had produced the movie along with Vinod Menon. The studio works of the movie was done at Little Films, her own studio at Mumbai which was established in 2006. The movie is set for release on 25th May 2012.
