Is English speaking critical for success?

One of the top soft skills which have redefined professional success is spoken English. Parents are trying to start early to speak whatever little English possible with their young ones no matter what their local dialect is. Yes, of course mastery over any language is a must. But spoken English has redefined professional success. Many finishing schools are trying to give knowledge of soft skills in which business English is a must. How you say is becoming more important than what you say – is this true? Do you feel fluent spoken English will help you strike big on the career front?

Knowledge in English or for that matter any other language than mother tongue will only help expanding your horizon of success. But it should not be at the expense of your mother tongue. Only mother tongue can help you understand things clearly and help reproducing it meaningfully.

When you write a sentence in English, first the idea comes to your mind through your mother tongue. Then in mind an exercise of translation of the matter into English takes place, before putting it in black and white. Thus mother tongue is most important.

For the purpose of access into other fields, connected with your job or study you may need to study English. When you study English make sure that the same is done effectively. Speaking in a foreign language may seem difficult in the beginning, but within no time you can overcome this, if you attempt it sincerely.

Knowledge of English is not critical for success. What is the meaning of success? Earning enough money? if it so, we can find traders who are not educated earning much more than highly educated salaried persons. If it is literary works we cane find many poets, story writers or many other subjects who know only Malayalam.

Knowledge of English is Needed for making a good job . we are always fluent with malayalam.Because malayalam is our mother tongue. we can live anywhere in kerala and lakshadeep with fluency in malayalam. Consider if we are in Bangalore or Nagaland. we have nothing to do with our language. Please consider ,here i am not to devalue our mother tongue. i want to understand that other than malayalam language give a little importance to english language from childhood.

To make a good career in any field we must know english. In some companies job criteria, there should be a word that 'English fluency is must'. These job criteria are found always in kerala companies.

Current situation in kerala is almost 78 percentages of parents are trying to Enter their childrens to English medium school from their primary level. This is because they know that importance of english in our future life.

We malayalis are trying to Speak in english but before speaking in english we are thinking in our mother tongue malayalam.Anf through ours thoughts we make sentense in english. so does not devalue our malayalam. we can improve our english only through malayalam thoghts.

English is the Universal language.
We need to accept the truth that it is the most dominant language on earth.

Knowing the English language fluently is a must in today's world as English has been accepted as the Universal language. It is known as the lingua franca of the world. Lingua franca means a language which is systematically used to make communication possible between people who do not share the same mother tongue. It is obvious that most of the people who have different mother tongue's speak in English so that they can communicate. English is a must for people who wish to go abroad and work. For that matter, it is best if a person tries to learn some foreign languages too such as French and Spanish because these languages are also widely spoken around the world and it will help you to communicate to people who dont know English also. But all said, knowing one's own mother tongue is also very much necessary. Only if you know your mother tongue, it will help you to master other languages too as it'll form as a base of knowledge.

Another point in that while searching for a job, communication skills are very important. Interviewers check for these skills more than academic grades in the candidates. That is why in most of the placements during college times, you can see that the highest ranked person might get a job only in the end and the people with arrears also land up with a job sooner because they might be having better fluency in English.

English is necessary if we are to work in offices. It will help those who know it to some extent even if they are not in services to communicate with others who know English.

However, I do not feel it as essential to know English if our work does not involve in communication in English. I have come across several individuals who do not have any education in English doing business in other places where the language is different from theirs. Let us take the common examples of the labourers now available. They are mostly from North India who do not know any language except Hindi. They are able to manage with what they know.

Of course it is a good thing to know English or any other language even if we do not require to use it, as any knowledge is knowledge.

The ability to speak any language is a good thing. The necessity of a language other than mother tongue is depends on some other factors. If you are staying in a place other than your native place you have to learn the language which is used in that place. The importance of learning English is that it is the universal language for communication.

The Bad habit found in Kerala is that they give importance to English and give less importance to Malayalam. Some of us are not using correct pronunciation or colloquial pronunciation when using Malayalam. Please don't follow the Ranjini Haridas and please don't kill Malayalam while learning English.
