    Wild elephants enter towns

A wild elephant entered a street in Mysore and created lots of damages including the death of an individual. It is reported that four others were also injured. Cattle and vehicles were also not spared. The elephant is reported to have come from the wild life sanctuary, 40 km away and was accompanied by another elephant.

Another report from Edathanattukara (Palakkad district in Kerala) states that a wild elephant killed a person by kicking into soil. People were trying to send back a herd of elephants which came to their village by shouting and creating other protests. One man, some how, became alone from the group and who was seen lying dead later due to the kicking of elephants.

Both these incidents show again that the dwelling places of these wild animals are no more secure as they are concerned. These animals do not get enough food and water from their available abodes. Man interfere in their freedom and cut short their space for living.

Yes. As you said the animals are not getting enough food and are straying into human inhabited areas. The incident quoted above is not an isolated one nor it is confined to elephants.

Earlier there used to be reports of leopards and cheetahs straying into human habitations and harm the humans and damage their properties.

This is happening because of the shrinkage of the forest area. We have to expand our cultivable area to create more food. In addition the encroachments of forest land is very high.

Due to rain deficiency the water hoes are dry and animal habitation gets reduced which bring the hunter animals to villages for their food.

The vegetation shrinkage forces the animals like the elephants to stray into cultivated areas which are near to human habitations.
