October first, World elders' day
Today, first of October is celebrated as World Elders' Day. On one side this celebrations and pronouncements to protect these category of people continue. On the other side these people are getting neglected by their own kith and kin.The number of old age homes go on increasing. Reports appear in news papers about the children throwing away their parents on road side, just as they do with the domestic waste.
It is reported that the number of senior citizens are increasing yearly due to high standard of living. About 30% of the population belong to this category in Kerala.
