Global warming is one of the major cause of temperature rise in Kerala. There are many other causes contributes to worsening of the situation such as destruction of forests, uncontrolled cutting down of trees from non forest areas, emissions from automobiles, covering of more earth surfaces with concrete including house construction, tin sheet roofing, paving of courtyards,Building compound walls and tarring of roads. In addition to that construction of high rise building, usage of air conditioners, planting more water conusming trees like Acacia,Mangium,Eucalyptus etc increases localized warming.
Every persons is responsible for this. Warming can be prevented to an certain extend.
Planting of more trees like Mango trees,Jack fruit trees, bamboos,Banyan trees, teak wood trees, kandals, reduce destruction of paddy fields, preserving Kavus and Kulams, making minor ponds Mazhakkuzhi),Planting trees on both sides of the roads etc can help reduction in temperature.
Using ecofriendly construction materials and avoid using plastics, pigment & plastic based paints and similar material.
Improving public transport system to reduce number automobiles. Use more water transport systems for cargo movements. Covering with thick leafed trees can improve situation.

I go in support of Salim, Climatic changes are not the one affected in Kerala, it has become global and the ultimate reason is global warming which is caused only by us. The same effect is felt in even high altitudes where normally the climatic conditions are better during the summer and presently the scenario is changing.
For instance, Coimbatore a near by place to palakkad used to enjoy both the south east and south west monsoon and normally the temperature doesn't go more than 34 degrees or to a maximum of 38 degress, but now people here says that the temperature go as high as 40 to 41 degrees a never before change and this is due to felling of trees to broaden their infrastructure. So it is all in our hands to be eco-freindly and nature friendly to save the world from global warming.

It's one among those naked truth, but the worse one; that we are getting hotter than any of the time.In fact every body know that it's because of none other than GLOBAL WARMING. For the past years, we thought that global warming is not going to haunt us and it is a Western country issue. But as Salim says, now we are suffering the more as its output. We can see its impact in most of the areas in our state too. They are; 1. INCREASE IN TEMPERATURE Now we are suffering from a high temperature of 42 degrees in many parts of our state. To say, it was around 32 degree in 2004 and 34 degree in 2006. 2. SUN STROKES In the last two years we have been seeing lots of people are dying during summer season due to sun strokes. 3. LOSS OF WETLANDS AND RISE IN TEMPERATURE With the increase in sea level, there arise two main issues; (a)loss of coastal wetlands (b)submersion of cities 4. CHANGES IN CLIMATE We are getting an uneven climate now a days and this has lead to the loss of agriculture in many parts of the state.
And why this happened to our 'God's own state'? As everybody knows, its the deforestation that leading to green house effect is the main cause behind global warming. And there are many reasons. But as far as Kerala is concerned, it is the above one that leads to this pathetic condition we are facing today.
And the most sad thing is that although everybody knows that planting more trees is the one and only one effective solution, none is ready to plant a single one.We need to change now onwards. Then only we can have a little escape from this in the future. DO IT NOW; BEFORE WE WILL BE HERE NO MORE.........

IMD data show that there has been a rise of over one degree in February and March this year compared to the last 50 years. Environmentalists said that the state governments do not take punitive action against large scale destruction of mangroves, deforestation and mining of rivers.-http://economictimes.indiatimes.co I also think Kerela is a in a really vulnerable place considering its place near the equator and its distance from the sea.

It is true that the the climate of Kerala is changing. The mercury level shows an upward trend continuously over the last few years. This year it crossed 42 degree celsius in Palakkad. in other districts also proportionate changes are reported. It is mainly because we are drastically changing our approach towards nature. Our exploitation of natural resources is crossing the limits. Almost all the hiils are destroyed for the sake of filling the low lying lands ibcluding the rice fields. Rice fields are the typical water preservation centres. Rain water spreads in these fields, and only the overflowing water go out of it join the neighbouring river. This help retaining the ground water level in a maximum level. Similar is the problem of cutting of trees and destruction of forests. Forest is not a collection of trees. It is a bio-system which preserve the water and soil and thereby help the life of numerous living organisms. Available rocks are cut into pieces and brought into cities for constructing roads and buildings. Together with this the temperature level of the cities go up. Thus all our actions are ending up in the destruction of nature, and as a cosequence we get our cimatic conditions changed.
