Upliftment of Health Programme in Attappady

A new scheme is introduced by the District Administration,Palakkad to promote the health care of the people of Attappady.They had formulated a new Grama Sahodari scheme in Attappady to avoid child deaths in remote halmlets.In the scheme, atleast one woman from the halmlet is selected to get one month training under the Health Department with an honararium of Rs2000.Those woman would supply first aid medicines to the needy.They would visit houses of pregnant and lactating women to make them aware of health care.

The Attapadi tribal area was very much in the center of media for the poor health condition of the area. But now it is in the news mainly because of the political rivalry of the 2 opposite camps, for political showmanship. Both the camps were ruling Kerala almost by alternation. So one cannot point finger to the other, one section even calling Attapady as the 'republic of Hunger'.

However, now the situation is different, irrespective of what the politicians may say. With the participation of the district administration under the benevolent leadership of the Collector.The Government introduced a tribal health scheme by the name 'Giriswasthya' combined with a novel health insurance scheme. This has changed the health condition of the tribal for the better.
