Will The Smart city Project, Kochi, The largest IT Park in India become a reality?

Initially Smart city project was initiated by Former Chief Minister of Kerala in 2003 . Later in short chief ministerial period of Oommen Chandy, he was tried to step up the project by inviting the Dubai Internet City team for a possibility study. But later he failed to make it reality. After that the present Chief Minister Mr. V.S.Achuthanandan also has taken interest to bring up the project into right way by changing previous 'Memorandum of Understanding' which was signed during the period of Mr. Oommen Chandy.

On May 2007, Kerala government, TECOM and other investors are signed final agreements, but the announcement of SEZ policy of Government made a trouble to the progress of project. In between there was a big delay come in the name of registration of the land as Smart City, Kochi. The economic recession part also paved the way to slow down the project. Now the latest news says that Government appointed M.A. Usaf Ali, who is the Director of AIR INDIA and Vice chairman of NORKA, as a mediator in this issue. If this project fails, it will be both money and employment loss for Kerala as TECOM was assured to create about 10,000 jobs.

What will be the future of this big project? What were the actual problem in this Issue which could delay the project?

    Babu,
The smart city project would have brought great boost to the Kerala Industrial sector. When the present state government came into power the people of Kerala had expected more from the ruling body. No wonder still the project is not completed the initial tasks. We cannot expect any miracle in the coming days. It really depends upon the attitude of the state government to implement such great ventures. As it's a joint endeavor the state government has to give all support to the Internet City to bring this project to lime light. While we compare the development of other states which favour foreign collaboration, our state governments are still lacking behind in taking authoritative decisions. Do you remember about the Global Investors Meet(GIM). Even keralites who work outside the country fear to invest money here. Lets hope the present smart city project will not remain a dream for the people of kerala.

If the Smart City Project comes through, it will boost the industrial climate in the entire State as the doors will be opened for others to follow in Malabar area, in particular. How-so-ever, the dirty politicians want to take advantage of such big projects. If this is not through now, I am sure, the next Ministry lead by UDF will definitely bring them back and see that it is a reality. At that time, the current ruling party's cobwebs will raise their ugly head on one pretext or the other. Ultimately, the poor mass will have to face the music then.

NO & YES are two short words, which need a long thought..., most of the things we miss in life are due to saying NO too soon or YES too late. Have a great day.
