Shruthi Sawant, the upcoming South Indian actress is better known by her stage name Iniya. She hails from Trivandrum, the capital city of Kerala. She has two siblings, a brother and a sister. Her entry into the silver screen was through television channels and as a child artist. hen she was studying in fourth grade, she first appeared in a tele-film "Koottilekku". Then she marked her presence through the tele-serials "Orma" and "Sree Guruvayoorappan" by Vayalar Madhavan Kutty. Iniya was a model too.
The year 2005 was a blessed year for her and she got into the film industry in this year. Iniya's first film was a Malayalam art film "Saira", directed by Dr. Biju. In the same year she won the Miss Trivandrum title. Then she has appeared in lot of advertisements and television serials. In the year 2006, Iniya has appeared in an English short film "The Sacred Face", by Rajesh Touchriver. This short film focuses on child abuse. Her next film was "Dalamarmarangal", directed by Vijayakrishnan in 2009.
In 2010, Iniya entered the Tamil film industry through the movie "Padagasaalai", directed by Thamizh J. After that she signed up for some more Tamil films, unfortunately most of them have not released so far or those remain cancelled. Her next Tamil movie was "Yuddham Sei", directed by Myshkin in 2011. Iniya appeared as the character 'Charu' in this crime thriller. Through the Tamil movie "Vaagai Sooda Vaa", directed by A. Sarkunam Iniya appeared in he female lead role. She gave life to the character 'Madhi'. This movie had won lot of awards and Iniya also has put forward excellent performance in this movie. She was nominated as the Best Actress for the Filmfare Awards South, Best Actress for Vijay Award and Best Debut Actress for Vijay Award. It was for this movie that she changed her screen name to Iniya.
From then Iniya's growth as an actress started. She appeared in the lead role in a Tamil film "Mouna Guru", directed by Santha Kumar. This movie was a hit at the box-office. Then in the year 2012, Iniya again appeared in a Malayalam movie "Bhoopadathil Illatha Oridam", directed by Joe Chalissery as 'Bhaama'. Iniya got the opportunity to play the lead role in this movie as well as along with Sreenivasan, Rajsree and Nivin Pauly. "Ammavin Kaipesi", directed by Thangar Bachchan was her Tamil film of the year 2012.
