Kerala State Eligibility Test (SET) 2013 scheduled on June 16 2013 - Apply from March 19th onwards


Kerala SET Exam 2013 is scheduled on June 16th 2013 throughout Kerala. LBS Centre for Science and Technology is responsible for conducting Kerala State Eligibility Test(SET) 2013. SET Exam 2013 is scheduled on June 16 2013 in all district head quarters in the state of Kerala. SET exam is the eligibility criteria for selecting Higher Secondary School Teachers and Non-Vocational Teachers in VHSE. SET exam is a mandatory requirement for every candidate who is seeking for a job as a Higher secondary teacher within the Kerala state.

Papers and pattern for SET 2013


Candidate should appear for 2 papers in SET exam 2013 each with a duration of two hours. Paper 1 will be the same for all candidates regardless the subject they have opted for. Paper I comprises of General Knowledge in Part A and with Aptitude questions in Part B section. Paper 2 is based on specialization subject of each candidate at the PG level. There are 35 subjects for Paper 2 available for SET 2013. They are Anthropology, Arabic, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, French, Gandhian Studies, Geography, Geology, German, Hindi, History, Home Science, Islamic History, Journalism, Kannada, Latin, Malayalam, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Russian, Sanskrit, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics, Syriac, Tamil, Urdu and Zoology.

For Paper I, there will be 120 questions with 60 questions each for Part A and Part B. Each question shall carry 1 mark. There will be 120 questions carrying one mark each for the subjects under Paper II except for Mathematics and Statistics. For Mathematics/Statistics there shall be only 80 questions carrying 1.5 marks each.

Eligibility criteria for SET 2013


Applicant for SET 2013 should have secured at least second Class in Master's Degree in the concerned subject, with at least 50% marks and B.Ed.Degree in any discipline from any one of the Universities in Kerala or should have achieved these qualifications from any other recognized University, with certain exceptions as mentioned below.

Candidates applying for Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology subjects with Second Class in MSc.Ed Degree in the concerned subject with at least 50% marks from one of the Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT are eligible for SET 2013.

Candidates applying for Botany and Zoology subjects with Second Class in MSc.Ed Degree in Life Science, from one of the Regional Institutes of Education, with at least 50% marks are also eligible.

Candidates applying for Anthropology, Commerce, French, Gandhian Studies, Geology, German, Home Science, Journalism, Latin, Music, Philosophy, Psychology, Russian, Social Work, Sociology, Statistics and Syriac subjects need not acquire B.Ed Degree for State Eligibility Test 2013.

Candidates who have acquired second class in Master's Degree in Communicative English with at least 50% marks and BEd are also eligible to appear for SET 2013 in English.

Candidates having Diploma in Hindi Teaching, but do not have B.Ed.Degree, are eligible to apply for SET 2013 in accordance with the exemption clause provided in the Special Rules.

Candidates admitted in 2012 for B.Ed, will be permitted to appear for the State Eligibility Test June-2013. Candidates appearing for Post Graduate final year/Final semester Examinations in the academic year 2012-13 will also be permitted to attend for SET June-2013 if they already have a B.Ed Degree.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST categories will be granted a relaxation of 5% marks in the minimum marks prescribed for the eligibility SET 2013.

Fees for SET June 2013


For People from Kerala:
  • Rs. 750 - for general candidates
  • Rs.375 - for SC/ST/VH/PH candidates

For non-Kerala People:
  • Rs.800- for general candidates
  • Rs.425/- for SC/ ST/VH/PH candidates

Application form and Prospectus will be available at selected Post Offices from 18th March 2013 up to 17th April, 2013.

How to register for SET 2013


There are two steps for submitting SET 2013 application.

Step 1- Online Registration
All the candidates should submit an application through online at www.lbskerala.com between 10:00am on 19th March to 3:00pm on 17th April, 2013. Here, the candidate have to Log on to the site www.lbscentre.org or www.lbskerala.com and then click on 'SET-June-2013'. There tehy wil find a 'Download Application Form' button. Click on it. The candidates will be asked to type the application number and the Site Access Key as same as the printed application form without error to get the format of the online application form. Here the candidate can select their test centre. After the successful completion and submission of the form, candidate gets a Registration ID.

Steps 2- Send the application form to LBS
The applicant should send the application form to LBS centre Trivandrum. The application form obtained along with the Prospectus should be filled and a recent passport size photograph of the applicant affixed in it. Application form should be send to The Director, LBS Centre for Science and Technology, Extra Police Road, Nandavanam, Palayam, Thiruvananthapuram-695033. In the envelope applicant should write super-scribed 'Application for SET-June-2013'. Application form should reach before 5:00pm on 17.4.2013 at LBS centre.
