Kerala Erachi Puttu - Ingredients and Preparation Methods

You should start this method from today itself. So if you eat Erachi Puttu as breakfast then your health will be very strong. In kerala, the puttu is very famous recipe. They have prepared different type of puttu. They consume puttu in the every morning. Especially the erachi puttu is healthy to us for taking as breakfast. We can take it without any side dish, but I think Vegetarian Stew is a good choice for this, if you prefer a side dish. Erachi Puttu is very famous breakfast food in Kerala.

Ingredients of Erachi Puttu


• Puttu powder – 1.5 cups
• Coconut – ½ – 1cup
• Salt
• Water
• Cooked beef/chicken – 300 gms (refer notes)
• Onion – 1 small, finely chopped
• Tomato – 1 small, chopped
• Garam masala – ¼ -1/2 tsp
• Crushed pepper – ½ tsp
• Coriander leaves – 2 tsp, chopped
• Salt
• Coconut oil

Preparation Method for Erachi Puttu


Step 1:
Take a bowl put the puttu podi and adds little bit of salt and mix well.

Step 2:
By adding water little by little the powder becomes moister or wet. Add half of the grated coconut to this and mix well.

Step 3:
If too much of lumps is just run it in your blender/food processor for a few seconds. Keep separate the puttu mix for about 10 minutes.

Step 4:
Pour a small amount of oil into a pan and heat it and then add the chopped onions. Stir fry till it changes brown color. After that add chopped tomato and salt. Cool till the tomato becomes soft.

Step 5:
Add grained pepper and garam masala. Mix well. Add frayed or crushed meat and mix well.

Step 6:
Pour ¼ cup of hot water, just to bring it all together. When the water dries add chopped coriander leaves and mix well.

Step 7:
The first layer is 1 tbsp of coconut. Then the second layer is 2 tbsp of meat masala. The third layer should be 4-5 tbsp of puttu mix.

Step 8:
Repeat the previous processing step, till the entire three layers are fixed.

Step 9:
The mould layer is not tightly packed so you should handle it carefully. Closed the mould with the lid. Fill water in puttu kudam.

Step 10:
Place the puttu kutti on puttu kudam. Cook it on small flame for about 5-7 minutes. Now you can serve it.
