With a deep interest to encourage parents from minority communities to send their children to school, the prematric scholarship was announced 2006 as Prime minister's new 15 Point Programme for the welfare of minorities. The Prematric scholarship forms the foundation for their educational attainment while providing a way into the competitive employment arena.
In view of this, the Kerala state government has invited application for the prematric scholarship scheme for minorities 2014 -15. The scholarship is being awarded for students in a government or private school from class I to class X.
The initiative would lighten the financial burden of the family on school education and also sustain the efforts of the parent to support their children to complete school education. Much interestingly, this scheme will provide empowerment and is ignited with potential to strengthen the socio economic conditions of the minority communities.
The scholarships are awarded to the students who have secured not less than 50% marks in the previous final examination while the annual income of their parents/guardian from all sources should not exceed Rs. 1 lakh. Following the National Commission for Minorities Act 1992, the scholarship is being awarded to students belonging to minority communities like Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists and Zoroastrians (Parsis).
30% of scholarship will be reserved for girl students. As the number of scholarships for is fixed and limited, weightage is given to poverty rather than marks. The scholarships will be provided for the entire course which include admission, tuition fee and maintenance allowance. Those students belonging to the minority category can apply the prematric scholarship in the prescribed form. The application forms should be received back along with requisite certificates/certifications within the specific period. Course fee/Tuition fee of the eligible students will be credited to the school's/institute's bank account or electronically through the banks.
