Sasi Tharoor was born on 9th March 1956. He was elected as the member of Indian Parliament from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency. Saai Tharoor was an ex-Minister of State for External Affairs of the Republic of India. He is popularly known as the face of the United Nations. He was the youngest ever Under Secretary General to be appointed in the UN. At the age of 22 he joined the United Nation and he was dare to participate in the election in 2006, he was the official candidate of India for the office of United Nations Secretary-General, and came second out of seven official candidates in the race. He is presently working for the Board of Overseers in the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.


EARLY LIFE OF SASI THAROOR
Although Sasi Tharoor is a Malayali, he was born in London. His parents are Chandran Tharoor and Lily. His education is as follws;
Primary education :Montfort School in Yercaud and Campion School in Mumbai.
High school :St. Xavier's Collegiate School in Kolkata
Bachelor of Arts degree(history):St. Stephen's College, Delhi
He was the winner of a scholarship to study at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University where he earned three degrees in two years.He was the youngest person in the history of the university to get a degree. It happened when he was 22 years old. His doctoral thesis, "Reasons of State", is a course that is still thought in the university.


SASI THAROOR'S CARRIER IN UNITED NATIONS
His carrier in United Nations began in 1978. At his first appointment, he served as the staff member of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Geneva.
1981-1984-At the UNHCR office in Singapore during the boat people crisis.
1989-the Special Assistant to the Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations in New York.
Upto 1996-leader of the team of peacekeeping operations in the former Yugoslavia
1997- Tharoor was appointed Director of Communications and Special Projects and as Executive Assistant to the Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
2001:As the Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, and as the head of Department of Public Information (UNDPI)
2003:Got the additional responsibility of United Nations Coordinator for Multilingualism.
9 February 2007:Resigned from the post of UN Under-Secretary-General
2006:He was nominated by the Government of India for the post of UN Secretary General. He came second among the 7 candidates.


POLITICAL CARRIER OF SASI THAROOR
The political carrier of Sasi Tharoor started on a sudden. He contested the Indian General Elections in 2009 as Congress Party candidate from Thiruvananthapuram constituency. He was criticized as an "elite outsider", but inspite of all that he got a stunning win with a margin of approximately 100,000 votes. He was selected as a Minister and on 28 May 2009 he was elected as the Indian Minister of State for External Affairs. But On 18 April 2010 Tharoor resigned from his post as Minister of State for External Affairs on instructions from Prime Minister Manmohan Sing due to Cochin IPL controversy. His political carrier was not stopped by that resign as on 2nd May 2010, he was nominated to be a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for External Affairs.
