Seeing the big posters of football world cup and the feverish celebrations of Keralites, doubt is that 'if the World cup really happening in Kerala?'. Yes, Kerala and it's people take this world cup too in their heart. Every city, every village, every junction, every corner and every people are in the grip of football fever. It's a naked truth that many bus services are not running from the evening onwards due to the shortage of people. The days from June 10 to July 10 is the celebration for Kerala and it's people too. Many are not going for their jobs only to watch their favourite teams in action. Those who can't move to South Africa, the best place in the world to quench the world cup thirst will be Kerala.

The Celebrations

Well, the celebrations in North Kerala is such a crazy thing that you will wonder if the worldcup is happening here. Infact, the football fever affected the people even before the commencement of the matches. The auto-rickshaws and cars are painted in the favourite teams Jerseys is not a rare thing in the streets. Flags, banners and cutouts of the teams and star players are every where in North Kerala. The great gathering in the streets and even in the small villages really speaks the thirst of football in Malabar. There are occasions in which people wore the team jersey of their favorite team in their own marriage itself. The great football fans in Malappuram conducted an exhibition termed as 'Malappuram aaravam' to spread the football celebrations to every where. "Waka... Waka..." become the anthem for the fans. In fact, the cheering of the fans according to "Waka Waka" is something which is special in this Worldcup season. World cup juices introduced by Malappuram is special in this season. Even some of the villages are renamed as Brazil nagar and Argentina nagar.

Flex battle in Kerala

Flex battle in Kerala is the most interesting feature of this world cup season. Every team fans are having large flexes every where in Kerala. The posters are portrayed in such a way that it will really catch your mind. On one side it speaks of the strength of the team, and on other side it speaks of their strength over other teams. No 'Kakas'(‘kaka’ in Malayalam means the bird ‘crow’) will ever fly over our Messi" and " Every team can play, but for the second place" are the two catchy slogans in the flexes. The posters of other teams are also not behind. But fans are more for Argentina and Brazil. In Malappuram district, parallel matches are conducted in the names of their favourite teams.

The celebrations and fans are making Kerala in the grips football fever. Kerala football authorities hope that this overflowing temper will take Kerala football to a new level, a higher level.
Anyway, there are pains and laughter when their favourite teams looses and wins the matches. But we have to wait until July 11 to watch whose smile lasts.
