Bangladesh joining world cricket

this article describes about the birth of Bengladesh cricket

Bangladesh is the tenth and the last nation to be granted Test status. Before the creation of Bangladesh, its players used to play for Pakistan, and before Pakistan was created, they used to play for India. it has been included in the fraternity of Test playing nations due to the efforts made by former ICC Chairman, Jagmohan Dalmia.
Just before the 1999 world cup, the Merryl International Competition was organised in Dhaka between Bangladesh, Kenya and Zimbabwe. Of these three sides, only Zimbabwe had test playing status and by winning this competition, it proved to the world the gap in standard of the Test playing nations and the ICC associate members. The performance of Bangladesh was pathetic but the organizing of the tournament helped popularize the game in the country. In February 1999, the Final of the Asian Test Championship was also played in Dhaka. In this tournament, played between India,Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the final was played between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in which Pakistan won on the fourth day itself. On the final and fifth day, a One day match was played between Pakistan and Bangladesh in which the former won by 152 runs. This difference was 9 runs more than the runs scored by Bangladesh. All these tournaments were organized from the point of view of globalizing the game and to take it to all parts of the world the purpose of which was to help cricket strike roots in Bangladesh. A cricketing environment was created in Bangladesh after watching good players and team play.
