The currencies like the US dollar, euro, British pound and Japanese yen., Indian Rupee acquired a unique symbol -: a blend of the Devanagri 'Ra' and Roman 'R' .This new symbol, designed by Bombay IIT post-graduate D Udaya Kumar. From 3000 designs, Udaya Kumar's design was selected and awarded Rs.2.5 lakh. Kumar describes his symbol that his design based on the tricolour, with two lines at the top and white space in between.
This symbol will not be printed on currency notes or coins. But includedin the 'unicode standard'and major scripts of the world for display or printing through electronic media. Unicode is an international standard that allows text data to be interchanged world wide without conflict.If the symbol included in the Unicode standard, this would be used by any individuals and entities within and outside the country.This symbol will be adding in computer keyboards and softwares which are using world wide.
