Onam festival of Kerala
Onam is the ten day festival celebrated in Kerala. The Onam festival marks the homecoming of King Mahabali who was the ruler of Kerala. The ten days of celebration starts from Atham, then Chithira, Chodi, vishakam, anizham, thrikketa, molam, pooradam, uthradam and thiruvonam. Thiruvonam is the last and most important day of Onam festival. The main activities during Onam festival are Ona Kodi (new dress), Atha pookalam (floral carpets) and Ona Sadya (Meals).
The main dress in Ona Kodi will be Mundu and shirt for males and Mundu and neriyathu for women. The main dishes in Ona Sadya are different types of pickles, payasam, avial, thoran, pachadi, parippu, sambar, chips etc. Onam special recipes
