Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE)Benchmark, Sensitive Index,
touched almost 18,800 to close at 18799.66 points, registering an increase of 0.7%. This peak was last observed in January 2008. During the week BSE Sensex gained 3.2%. Similarly the
Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE)
closed at 5640.05 points , an increase of 0.6%.

Market Analysts feel that the rise is due to "increased remittance from abroad coupled with the retail investors confidence". Banking counters witnessed hectic buying Mahindra and Mahindra,
SBI, HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank
were the major gainers of the week.
