The festival Thiruvathira of the womenfolk in Kerala falls on 22nd December 2010. Thiruvathira pattukal is the accompaniments for the famous Kaikottikali - the dance played by the group of Women on Thiruvathira Day in circles on the courtyard of the common centres. The lyrics are specially made and the steps of each dancer is rhythmic to the lyrics, particularly where - ever the speed matters. There is no parallel for the variety which is only special for the Women folk festival in Kerala. The traditional dress of the women in Kerala - Set Mundu is usually worn by the ladies and kasavu pavada and jacket by the girls below 18 while they participate in the Kaikottikali dance form. The uniform dress is adding more tranquility to the circle of the womenfolk and it is particularly attuned to the rhythmic verses of the Thiruvathira Kali songs. The great Poet, Irayamman Thampi had penned quite a few songs for the purpose of Thiruvthira Kali. It is really interesting to hear such songs specially from the voice of Ms Chitra.
