There are Water Carnivals held regularly during the festival months using the gigantic snakeboats or the country canoes which are of varied sizes. Every community or the village will have a boat to care for and the boat will be their pride when it participates in the carnivals and races.

How to Reach Alappuzha


Alappuzha can be easily accessed from all the three international airports of Kerala namely Thiruvananthpuram ( 154 kilometers ) , Kochi ( 64 kilometers ) and Kozhikode.

Alappuzha is located on the National Highway 47 which runs through most of the southern parts of Kerala to Kanyakumari in the state of Tamil Nadu. Because of this the district is connected to almost all the important cities in and around Kerala, namely, Bangalore, Coimbatore, Mangalore, Mumbai etc
Alapuzha has a railway station and it is linked to all the cities through Ernakulam. The Bus stand and the ferry stand are situated at about 5 kilometers from the railway station. Ferry services are also available from Kollam to Alappuzha and the boats pass through the scenic waterways of the backwaters of Kerala
