I. Choose the most appropriate answer from the alternatives given below. One
mark for each correct answer.

1) The object of Dower according to Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on

III. Answer all problems.

Each question carries 6 marks.

1) 'M', a Muslim husband has divorced his wife 'W' by irrevocable Talak. The
divorcee filed a petition for maintenance. M defended it on the ground that W
has ceased to be his wife and therefore, he was not liable to pay maintenance.
Decide.

2) 'A' has two sons X and Y. X is given in adoption to 'Z'. 'Z' has a daughter D.
Can X marry D ?

3) Mr. 'B' a Muslim male and 'C' a Hindu female, are citizens of India. They got married in London, and came back to India, and B dissolves the marriage by Talak. Is the divorce valid ?

4) Mr. X published a pamphlet which contain certain drawings about Mrs A. Is
Mrs. 'A' entitled to get remedy under the Indecent Representation of Women,
(Prohibition) Act, 1986 ? State the ingredients for getting remedy under this
Act. (4×6=24 Marks)

IV. Answer any three questions in not more than 300 words each. Each question carries 12 marks.

1) "Though half of the Indian population are women, they have always been
discriminated against and have suffered and are suffering discrimination in
silence". State the constitutional endeavours to eliminate the discrimination and sufferings of women.

2) Discuss the grounds for obtaining a valid divorce under the Hindu Marriage
Act.

3) State how a Hindu is bound to maintain his wife, daughter-in-law, his children and parents.

4) 'Dowry to be for the benefit of the wife or her heirs' - Discuss by analysing the relevant provision of the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. (3×12=36 Marks)
