Payanam is the new Tamil movie that is a little bit different from the regular Tamil films in terms of story and production values. Payanam is directed by Radha Mohan and produced by Prakash Raj and Dil Raju. The movie has Nagarjuna and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles along with Poonam Kaur and Sana khan.

Director Radha Mohan always came with films that is different in terms of themes. All his previous ventures were got critical acclaim. This time he taking the audience on a different journey which is different from his earlier ventures. The theme of the film-hijack and rescue are not new to the Tamil film industry, but here he told it in a different manner makes the action packed thriller a little humorous.

A passenger flight is begin kidnapped by a group of terrorist who force the plane to be taken to Rawalpindi. The passengers in the flight includes a politician, a priest ,and actor and a doctor among others. The terrorists force the plane to be taken to Rawalpindi, but due to engine failure, the plane lands in Tirupati. The terrorists demanded the release of Yousf Khan, a dreaded terrorist in jail and negotiations begun.

Major Ravindra (Nagarjuna) the commando for rescue operations and the bureaucrat Vishwanath (Prakash Raj) who negotiating on behalf of the government land there along with other seniors. The government decides to release the terrorist and decide to bought him to Tirupathi. Can Major Ravindra rescue the passengers in the flight without releasing Yousuf Khan. Watch the film for an interesting suspense and action packed climax.

Direction of Radha Mohan in Payanam

Payanam begins in a slow pace, but from the moment Major Ravindran takes the control, the film picks up and the last 20 minutes is extraordinary with the suspense. The film showcases many feelings of the common citizen and different mindsets of people caught in such a situation in a believable way. He clearly brings out the irresponsibility of the press to go to any length to sensationalize an issue and the typical bureaucratic procrastinations. But on the downside, it is hard to believe that some of the passengers seem to enjoy the hijack drama and not showing any fear. But he somewhat succeeded in making an equal space for both humor and action in the film. But it could have been taken care of the matter that this is a serious subject.

Performances in Payanam

The exciting feature of Payanam is the return of Nagarjuna to Tamil films after a long gap. He brings out a neat portrayal as the National Security Guard. As the helpless bureaucrat Viswanath Prakashraj agains surprised us. The film has a benchmark of stars acted as the various passengers in the flight. Thalaivasal Vijay comes with a neat performance, same the case with Kumaravel and Chaams. Don't know the name of the one who gave a good performance as the Yousuf Khan. Bramanandam as the film director also excelled in a cameo appearance.

Songs and Other Technical aspects of Payanam

Payanam is a movie that has no songs in it. But what steals the show in the absence of songs is the background score of Praveen Mani which really suits to the desired mood. It was in news that Thirupathi Airport is being recreated. Art director Kathir did the recreation aong with the authentic interiors of the plane. Guhan cames with some good frames which works int tandem with the mood of the film.
