In every society there good and bad people. Kerala people are of no exception. It is not fair to conclude that majority of Malayalees are not friendly within Kerala. Definitely, there are such unfriendly persons. But, if approached, majority are friendly and will extend a helping hand. They may not take initiative themselves, but they are ready to mingle with others. This opinion is based on personal experiences.
These days in most of the cities people stay closely. The local self Governments (Municipalities or Corporations)encourage the formation of 'Residents' Associations'. When initiatives are taken for such associations 99% of them join this and come forward with contributions (monthly contributions or annual) without any hesitation.
Such Residents' Associations take up common issues such as tarring the roads in that area or lighting the streets, or water related problems or waste related issues etc, with the Authorities and find solutions. Many members join in such common activities.
Occasional get together with entertainments or speeches etc. also attract many. In short co-operation comes forth if approached with an aim.

I fully agree with Sri T M Sankaran that in every society there are good and bad people and should not make generalisation. There may be a small percentage of variations from place to place. I might have made the observation based on the few unfriendly responses. In fact after reflection on reading the comment of Sri T M Sankaran, I realise that a large majority of people I interacted were good. I regret for the stamen t made by me.
