August 15 is Mega Star Mammootty's latest release in 2011 directed by Shaji Kailas.The film produced by M.Mani under the banner of Sunitha Productions scripted by S.N.Swamy. August 15 is the sequel to 1988 superhit movie August 1 directed by Sibi Malayil which is also scripted by S.N.Swamy. Story of August 15
The original story of the film is based on the English novel The Day of the Jackal, which told the story of the assassination attempt of the chief minister of the state and the investigation of a hot cop. August 15 has Mammootty as Crime Branch officer Perumal who is in the investigation in to another assassination attempt to Chief Minister of Kerala on the Independence Day. The entire film belongs to Perumal's investigation about the murder attempt and the twist and turns behind it.
August 15 has a huge star cast along with Megastar Mammootty in which Meghana Raj and Swetha Menon are the heronines. Meghna Raj is a cyber cell police officer who is assisting Perumal in the investigation process. Swetha Menon also got another important role as a doctor who also support Perumal in the investigation Process. The film has Lalu Alex,Nedumudi Venu, Balachandran Chullikkadu, Thalaivasal Vijay and many others in the supporting cast.August 15 Review
From the first reports the film is getting mixed reports. It is not a usual Shaji Kailas Film. Shaji cleverly avoid the unwanted technical gimmics in this movie. Mammootty is in full form with his stylish costumes and body language. The basic story of the movie is same as the original one except the twist in the climax. Siddique plays the villain character in the film which is nowhere the character played by Captain Raju in August 1. He also didnt get enough screen space.
The script is a same rehash of Swamy's earlier movies. The script lacks punch and so the film too. The direction is average that the film didn't get the enough pace and narrative style of Investigation movies. The two heroines- Meghna Raj and Swetha Menon- didnt get enough scenes in the movie to perform. Nedumudi Venu is OK as the Chief Minister's role. The film begins with the murder attempt of Chief Minister. Perumal is coming for the investigation of the murder. And then on, several murder attemps are coming on the way. Perumal becomes the body guard of Chief Minister. Can he find the person behind the scenes? If you are so eager to know who he is, watch it.
The plus points in the film are Background Music(Thanks to Syam) and Mammootty's Costumes. Box office verdict of the film is not predicted now. Let us wait for few more days to know the audience report.
