It was the third ICC Cricket World Cup.West indies won the first two world cups. India beat West Indies in the final match.Nobody believed that India could beat West Indies.West indies were the strongest team at that time.There pace attack are very famous during that period.
In the final match West Indies won the toss and elected to field first.Sunil Gavaskar and Srikanth opened the innings for india. West Indies striked wickets so early.Gavaskar took 2 runs got out to Roberts. Srikanth had played a nice innings .Srikanth became the the top scorer for India in the first innings.He made 38 runs.Mohinder Amarnath gave good support to srikanth's innings.Finaly India were all out for183runs in 54.4 overs(Max 60 overs at that time).Roberts took three wickets for 32 runs.
Everyone belived that 183 was a short total for West Indies.But Indian bowlers bowled well.Sandhu strike early as he took the wicket of the opening batsman Greenidge.After the first wicket Desmond haynes and Vivian richardson make a good partnership for west indies. They takes 45 runs in that partnership.A trick applied by kapildev to make Madanlalbowl had changed the game.
Vivian Richardson had played a good innings.After thatAmarnath took the wicket of the middle enders.At a score of 140 runs Amarnath took the wickets of Holding.It was the last wicket for West Indies and India won the match by 43 runs.This was the first world cup title for India.
