Importance of Panjal Athirathram

Panjal Athirathram , the oldest surviving vedic ritual on Earth started today. Paanjal Athirathram 2011 is organized from April 4 to April 15, 2011 at Panjal. Athirathram is supposed to be the most ancient and well known among Vedic rituals. It is designed for the welfare of people, animals and nature.There are many scientific importance to this mahayaaga. You can define the objective of this mahayaaga scientifically and according to the beliefs. In this ritual,the negative energy is converted to positive energy . A fireball with the temperature of around 1,200dc is generated by the yaaga. This will purify the air and the aim of this ritual is the welfare of the whole earth-its plants and animals.

Because of this importance Paanjal Athirathram is slso going to be a research programme since many researchers from abroad like Thailand and Japan reached here for profound studies on the rituals and its impacts.

History of Panjal Athirathram

It was in 1975, the first Athirathram was performed at Panjal. It was of 12 days and was performed by Namboothiri Brahmins of Kerala. The ceremonies require the participation of seventeen priests who undergone several months of preparation and rehearsals. The last Ahtirathram was instigated by the Indologist Dr. Frits Staal of the University of California and by Mr. Robert Gardner, with support from several international agencies.
