Kumar Sangakkara a gentle man on the field and off the field, took over captaincy from Mahela Jayawardene after Sri Lankans world cup final loss to Australia in 2007. Sangakara has been leading the tea so well; he brought glory to nation winning at home and abroad.

His heart rending speech after the loss to Indian in the 2011 world cup final showed what the kind of human was Sangakara, in his final speech as captain of the said he never hesitated to appreciate the Indian team even though he was very much disappointed at the loss of Sri Lankans. Sangakaras successor name is yet to announced, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Angelo Mathews are among those those who are considered for the post
