Vishu 2011 Malayalam New Year Festival Celebration at Kerala
Vishu is the Zodiac New Year of Malayalis of Kerala which falls on the first day of Malayalam month of 'medam' as per Malayalam Calendar. This year Vishu 2011 date is on April 15th.
Vishu Kani and Vishu Kaineetam on Vishu Festival of Kerala
'Vishukani' is the highlights of the Vishu Festival of Kerala. Malayalis believe that seeing 'Vishu Kani' will bring luck to them the whole year. Vishu Kani is the auspicious thing that people see on the day on the early dawn. The women of the house will make the Vishu Kani preparation on the previous night of the festival.
Vishu Kani consist of a list of items arranged in a vessel called uruli. The auspicious lists includes Silver and gold jewellery, rice, cucumber, Kasavu mundu - traditional cloth of Kerala, Aranmula Kannadi(mirror), jackfruit, coconut, holy scripts and yellow flower named Kanikonna the regional flower of Kerala.
Vishukani arrangements were kept ready at the puja room one day prior to the festival and on the day of Vishu festival where they will follow the tradition to wake up early and go to puja room with their eyes closed to see the Vishukanni as the first thing of the day. This is known as Vishu kani kanal which is the famous tradition of Kerala People. They believe that the prosperity of the year depends on the first thing that they view on the early morning after opening their eyes.
Vishu Kaineetam is the custom on which the elders of the family will give some sorts of gifts to their family members and the kids in the family as the elders believe that this gift-giving tradition on Vishu Malayalam new year festival will bring their children blessed with health, wealth and prosperity to them.
After Vishukani Kanal they used to have a ritual bath and visit nearby temples wearing new clothes. On this day they will listen to'Vishubhalam' the Vishu 2011 Predictions to know about the prospects of the year to the country and also they will look for the predictions for themselves for the coming year.

People used to visit Sabrimala at Kerala on Vishu Kani 2011 festival to have darshanam on the day of Vishu festival. Vishukkani festival is a eight day festival at the temple of Sabarimala starting from April 10th. During that time people can have dharshan on Padipuja and Udayasthamana Puja at Sabarimala. Thousands of devotees from all parts of the country will make their visit here at vishu kani festival. Vishu Kani 2011 time is from 5am to 7am on April 15th 2011.
