What we expect from a director who has some good album songs in his credit and recognized himself as director of famous stage programs? Add to this, if we came to know 'Novel'( film starring Jayaram and Sada in lead roles), was the filmy debut of this director, how it changes your expectation? You may expect another disaster like novel. Few may expect a movie from him with a thought in mind that he never repeat no such mistakes. As per the advertisement, the new movie titled 'Mohabbath' promoted as a triangular love story that never told in Malayalam history. More than that, they said that the film will be a family entertainment movie with all ingredients to enjoy this vacation. What to say, none of these promises seems to be true since the film is a totally waste.

Coming to the positive sides of the film, the film has six good songs by yesteryear super hit music director S.Balakrishnan. He is making a comeback to Malayalam with this film and getting good results. But picturisation of this songs are like Album shooting. Legend Singer Hariharan and actress turned singer Mamta Mohandas also acted in the film in cameo roles. Mohabbath got expectation only because of the heroine Meera Jasmin's presence in the film. The National Award winner actress has a very bold look in the film , but in most scenes her makeup was tampered. Another positive is that supporting cast of the film which includes many seniors coming with good performances than the leading actors. Nedumudi Venu, Shari etc are few names to mention. The first half of the film is almost OK with many hip-hop events and colorful songs. But the second half of the film is very predictable and bored. The climax is also taken in a very bad way. The director made this movie in the 1980 Bollywood formula which had songs in between the scenes. Why he don't know the minds of Malayalees ? It is better to concentrate more on album songs and stage shows than taking these type of movies.

Coming to the performances, Meera Jasmine did a cakewalk through the role of Sajana. But the personality of her character in this story is a mixture of her modern type characters in many films and her much criticized role in Kasthooriman. A big minus is her makeup, that we never seen in Malayalam films. There are tow heroes (?) in the movie- Munna and debutant Anand Michael. Munna created some expectations because of his good performance in Ravanan. He forgotten all the lessons studied from Manirathnam Camp( Is there any thing?), that we felt after watching his patehtic performance here. He is cute in his looking, but when he has to perform emotional scenes or scenes which need some acting skills, he failed in a big way. The debutant Anand Michael is a bit better than Munna, yet not good. The Editing department and Cinematography are OK, as the director himself never tried to make the film an engrossing one. The story is based on a popular novel Kalipaavakal and the script rewritten by Siddique Shameer which is mainly suited to 1980 era and never got substances to attract todays audience.

Verdict of Mohabbath

Mohabbath is suited for watch in your home screens rather than viewing in big screens. Yet, if songs and poor sentimental are your choice of entertainment, you can go for it
