It was believed that Osama bin laden was hiding in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Obama in his address to the nation said"“The death of bin Laden marks our nation's most significant achievement to date",added to this he said “This is a good and historic day for both of our nations."

Celebrations in the streets of Washington, D.C. were telecast live, and the social networking site flashed messages.

Obama said “In our time of grief, the American people came together. We offered our neighbors our hand and we offered the wounded our blood," . “On that day, no matter where we came from, what god we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we belonged to we were [as one] … tonight, let us think back to the scene of unity that was on the night of 9/11."
