According to different news sources,it was the President of America Barack Obama who announced that Bin Laden had been killed by the US troops in a statement to the nation at 11:30 p.m. Sunday.

According to the news sources on April 29, 2011,U.S. President Barack Obama authorized a raid named as "Operation Geronimo".

It was believed that Osama bin laden was hiding in a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Obama in his address to the nation said"“The death of bin Laden marks our nation’s most significant achievement to date",added to this he said “This is a good and historic day for both of our nations.”

Celebrations in the streets of Washington, D.C. were telecast live, and the social networking site flashed messages.

Obama said “In our time of grief, the American people came together. We offered our neighbors our hand and we offered the wounded our blood,” . “On that day, no matter where we came from, what god we prayed to, or what race or ethnicity we belonged to we were [as one] … tonight, let us think back to the scene of unity that was on the night of 9/11.”
