Balamani Amma is a famous poetess in Malayalam language. Balamani Amma,for her great works,was given several awards including Saraswati Samman, Padma Bhushan award & Ezhuthachan award respectively. Padma Bhushan award is the highest civilian award given in India.

Kerala people are always familiar with the name Balamani Amma, who is a famous Malayalam poetess. She was born in the year 19 July 1909. In general we can say that Balamani Amma is the grandmother of Malayalam Literature. It should be noted that Balamani Amma is the mother of Kamala Das. We all know that Kamala das is a famous writer. Remember that Balamani Amma passed away in the year 29 September 2004 at the age of 95.

Awards won by Balamani Amma

Balamani amma was honored with Saraswati Samman, which is considered as the highest literary awards in India. Actually this award was instituted in 1991 & this is given for prose or poetry literary works that is published in an Indian language. She also won the Padma Bhushan award.
