Importance of Santhosh Trophy
We all are familiar with the name santhosh trophy. This is associated with football. The santhosh trophy is named in memory of Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santhosh, now in Bangladesh. He was the President of Indian football association. The santhosh trophy football tournament was started in the year 1941. West Bengal is the most successful team in santhosh trophy football tournament. In 2007 & 2008, Punjab was the winner. But in 2009 Goa was the winner & Bengal was the runners up of this tournament. And in 2010, Bengal was the winner & Punjab was the runners up of this tournament. Kerala our own state had won 5 titles in the santhosh trophy football tournament. Remember that Kerala had appeared in the finals of this football tournament 12 times. I have already mentioned the year of introducing santhosh trophy. Note that the winners of the first tournament were Bengal & the runners up were Delhi. There will be winners, runners up as well as third place in this famous football tournament. The interesting fact is that the winners of this football tournament will be given the santhosh trophy, the runners up will be given the Kamla Gupta trophy & the team which gets the third place will be awarded the Sampangi Cup respectively
