Malabari prawns (chemmeen) curry with coconut milk


Ingredients


½ kg prawns
½ fresh coconut or 3 tbsp coconut milk powder
1 ½ tsp red chilli paste
½ tsp turmeric powder
½ tsp cumin powder
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp ginger-garlic paste
¼ tsp pepper powder
½ lemon (juice only)
1 medium onion (finely chopped)
2 tbsp oil
Salt to taste
Few curry leaves

Method


Clean the prawns, de-vein and keep it aside. If you are using fresh coconut, grind and extract thick milk (without adding water) about ½ cup and thin milk about ¾ cup and keep aside.
Heat oil and fry chopped onions till light brown. Add chilli paste, ginger-garlic paste, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, pepper powder and fry for few minutes. Add the prawns and cook in the masala paste for few minutes. Add the thin coconut milk and cook for few minutes, then add the thick coconut milk and salt to taste. Let it reach boiling point only once. Lastly, add lemon juice and curry leaves.
