This resource is about Eid ul Fitr, the great festival of Muslims. Eid 2011 is on August 30 or 31st. Eid is the most popular celebration of muslims and is celebrated at the end of Ramadan.

Eid-ul-Fitr


Eid is the most popular festival of Muslims. Eid celebrated after the fasting month of Ramadan (the ninth month of Islamic calender) is called Eid-ul-Fitr and in the month of Dul-Hajj is called Eid-ul-Adha. Fasting during Ramadan helps in developing self control and is a way of getting closer to Allah.Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first day of the month Shawwal.The festival begins when the first sight of the new moon is seen in the sky.It brings the moments of happiness and good spirits for Muslims around the world.

Celebration


Eid-ul-Fitr is the day of thanksgiving to Allah, for giving his the opportunity to fast and to worship him in the month of Ramadan. Muslims gather early in the morning in mosques or in outdoor locations to perform the Eid prayer. This consists of a sermon followed by a prayer. Eid is the time to spread love and happiness thereby creating enthusiasm among family and friends. Children Usually wear new dresses and exchange gifts. On the day of Eid People wish each other by saying "Eid Mubarak" which means "may you enjoy a blessed festival".It is a traditional greeting of Muslims.

Zakat


Islam wants all Muslims, whether rich or poor, should enjoy the Eid. Therefore it commanded all the people to pay Zakat.It is an obligatory charity on every Muslim and the time for giving Fitr-Zakat is from the night of Eid-ul-Fitr up to the noon (Zohr).The purpose of Zakat is to help poor people with which they can celebrate the Eid along with the rest of Muslims.

Eid-Ul-Fitr 2011 will probably be on August 30. However, the exact date will depend on when the crescent moon will be sighted after the new moon. This may vary on the location from where the moon is observed.
